To be admitted to master's programs in engineering and science and to get employment in the public sector, candidates must pass the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), an exam that is administered in India. On behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, GATE is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies at Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai (Madras), and Mumbai (Bombay).
